Prosper

Does the Bible promise prosperity if we do certain things? Leave a reply and let me know what you think.  I gave up a very good paying job to become a poor missionary and realized I could have done more for God if I had payed more attention to finances. I was wealthy and then became poor.

Proverbs 13:22  A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Deuteronomy 5:33
Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
Deuteronomy 6:24
The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.
Deuteronomy 28:11
The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you.

Deuteronomy 8:18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
Deuteronomy 29:9
Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do.

Proverbs 11:25
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Proverbs 13:21 prosperity is the reward of the righteous.

John 10:10 Jesus said he came to give us abundant life. That doesn’t mean poverty, it means abundance in this life and eternal life.

James 5¹³ Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. ¹⁴ Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵ And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. ¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man just like us. Wealth

When Jesus was young, wise men brought his family gold, frankincense and myrrh so his family became rich those were worth LOTS of money in those days. Jesus’ father was a carpenter, they made good money then and they do now. The reason Jesus was born in a stable is just because there was no room in the inn.

Jesus wore garments that were EXPENSIVE and reserved for the wealthy. That’s why the soldiers gambled for them and didn’t split them. Jesus ministry required a treasurer. Disciples stayed in hotels. Peter owned ships. Matthew was a tax collector. I could go on and on. Prosperity isn’t reserved only to money. Money is a small portion of the equation. Prosperity isn’t about money. It’s about provision to fulfill a purpose.

Jesus owned the cattle on a thousand hills because he was God. That means he was wealthy. When it was time to pay the  temple tax, he told a follower to catch a fish and get the coin in the mouth of the fish to pay the tax. Jesus didn’t even need money. He could provide a meal for 20,000 people. He fed the 5000, that was just counting the men, with women and kids that was probably around 20,000. If you show me a person who can feed 20,000 people today, I’ll show you a rich person.

The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.

Psalm 112:1 Blessed are those who fear the LORD…Wealth and riches are in their houses

Prov8: ¹⁷ I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. ¹⁸ With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.

Prov 10: ²² The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.

Jesus displayed wealth

Luke 5: ⁶ When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. ⁷ So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. [That much fish is worth a lot of money to a fisherman!]

John 21: ⁶ He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

John 2: ⁶ Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons… Jesus turned water to wine “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” [Can you imagine how much money that much great quality wine was worth then, and now?]

Matthew 17:27 …go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” [They didn’t even need to use their own money, God provided it to them.]

Luke 19:4 ⁵ When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” [Jesus owned all the houses, they were all his because he was God, so he didn’t need to ask if he could stay there. When he sent his disciples to get a colt and bring it, it wasn’t stealing, because the colt belonged to him, as did all the livestock in the world. That is wealth!]

Jesus feeds 5000 men (20,000 if you include women and children) and 4000. [That’s a lot of money for food. Jesus didn’t even need money because he could perform miracles.]
